"Dum pingo vivo" - "As long as I paint I'm alive " ...
Sara Borremans (°1979) is passionate about painting since childhood. As from 1997 she often works with human figures. That subject has become part of her oeuvre. In her search for simplicity an estaetics she learned the Sumi-e technique.
Sara's work is an attempt to catch the beauty of life, without forgetting about sociological facts such as mondialisation. Painting human figure in Sumi-e is like the maariage of cultures. An Eastern technique used to capture a typical Western subject.
Sumi-e is Japanese for "inkpainting". With this technique the painter aims to catch the soul of the subject in sheer simplicity. In 2006 Alain Bonnefoit introduced this technique to Sara. In her work she often adds other materials to the pure black ink such as pastel or pencil. In this way she awakens an own style.
